Watch David O. Russell’s “Joy” First Trailer

•• Fox has released the first trailer for David O. Russell’s Joy, reuniting his Silver Linings team of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. The Christmas 2015 release tells the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce.

Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen round out the cast. Like Russell’s previous films, Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love. From the looks of this first glimpse, Fox has a hearty feel-good holiday picture on its hands.

Russell penned the screenplay from a story he wrote with Annie Mumolo. Annapurna’s Megan Ellison is on-board as producer alongside John Davis, John Fox, Jonathan Gordon and Ken Mok. Michele Ziegler co-produces while Matthew Budman, Mary McLaglen, George Parra and Ethan Smith as exec producing.

Virginia Madsen Interview: Offbeat Comedy “Walter”

•• Virginia Madsen is best known for her role as Helen Lyle in Candyman (1992) and for her performance as Maya in Alexander Payne’s film Sideways (2004) for which she received numerous awards and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Other film appearances include Long Gone, Ghosts of Mississippi, Gotham, The Rainmaker, A Prairie Home Companion, Red Riding Hood, Firewall and The Astronaut Farmer.

Madsen has appeared on television in Moonlighting, Star Trek: Voyager, Frasier, The Practice, Dawson’s Creek, CSI: Miami, Monk, Scoundrels, The Event and Witches of East End. She is the sister of storied actor Michael Madsen and the daughter of author and filmmaker Elaine Madsen.

“I think he has the plague, and I kind of spiral into my own ridiculous insanity. Then the strange way it all unravels with this ghost, whether you think it’s real or in his mind, I found so fascinating. God, Justin did such a great job as the ghost. I thought he was wonderful.”

Walter, the feature film directorial debut for Anna Mastro, opens March 13, 2015 at select theaters and will also be available that day on all major VOD providers including iTunes, Microsoft Xbox, Google, Sony, M-GO, Blockbuster, Amazon Instant Video and Vudu. The gentle, absurdist comedy stars Madsen, Andrew J. West, Justin Kirk, Neve Campbell, Leven Rambin, Jim Gaffigan, Milo Ventimiglia, Peter Facinelli and William H. Macy.

Virginia Madsen joins David O. Russell’s JOY

•• Virginia Madsen has joined Joy, David O. Russell’s take on Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. David O. Russell is reteaming with his American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro for the Fox 2000 film, which is slated for release on Dec. 25. Edgar Ramirez is also starring.

Jennifer Lawrence will play the entrepreneur and inventor Mangano, whose many inventions include the Miracle Mop and Huggable Hangers. She began inventing at a young age, and made the prototype for the Mop in 1990. She has more than 100 patents, but the Mop was her first invention and the one that brougt her the most fame and fortune. While building her invention empire, she was also a single mom to three children.

Russell wrote the screenplay Annie Mumolo. John Davis and John Fox are producing with Ken Mok. The project is currently filming in Boston. Virginia Madsen, known for her Oscar-nominated role in Alexander Payne’s Sideways, recently wrapped filming on Walter with Milo Ventimiglia and William H. Macy.  Her other credits include The Magic of Belle Isle with Morgan Freeman, The Astronaut Farmer and The Number 23 with Jim Carrey. She’s repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment.
