“Dead Rising: Watchtower” Official Plot Synopsis and New Photo

•• Not only did Legendary’s Digital Media division and Crackle announce more casting today for their forthcoming feature Dead Rising: Watchtower, but they’ve also released a new photo of the cast on the set of the live-action adaptation of the Capcom game.

21 Jump Street’s Rob Riggle, Epic Meal Time’s Harley Morenstein, Once Upon A Time’s Keegan Connor Tracey and This Means War’s Aleks Paunovic join previously announced cast members Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Haysbert. The company says “Riggle will join the cast as Frank West, a weathered photo-journalist skilled in surviving Zombie attacks; Morenstein will play Pyro, a menacing biker and Logan’s (Paunovic) second-in-command; Paunovic portrays Logan, a hard criminal and the head of a biker gang and Tracey will take on the role of Jordan, a straight-laced journalist.”

Here’s the official plot synopsis: “Dead Rising: Watchtower takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.”

Contradiction Films is producing Dead Rising: Watchtower from a script by Tim Carter. Zach Lipovsky is directing. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, Red, G.I. Joe) will executive produce. Crackle will debut Dead Rising: Watchtower in its feature-length form in the U.S. After Crackle’s exclusive distribution run, the project will also be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV. Content Media Corporation will distribute Dead Rising: Watchtower in both feature-length and episodic formats for all international platforms.

Virginia Madsen joins Zombie Vidgame flick “Dead Rising: Watchtower”

•• Legendary Entertainment and Sony-owned Crackle have set Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives, Dallas), Meghan Ory (Once Upon a Time), Virginia Madsen (Sideways), and Dennis Haysbert (Men, Women & Children) to star in zombie chopper Dead Rising: Watchtower, the first project out of Legendary’s Digital Media division.

Leprechaun: Origins helmer and VFX veteran Zach Lipovsky is directing Dead Rising from a script by Tim Carter, based on the bestselling Capcom franchise that’s spawned two sequels and sold 7.6 million copies worldwide to date. As in the vidgame, Dead Rising: Watchtower is set during a zombie apocalypse. When a mandatory government vaccine fails, a group of survivors must evade infection while hunting down the root of the epidemic, which leads back to a government conspiracy.

Filming is set to begin tomorrow in Vancouver with Carter and Tomas Harlan producing for their Contradiction Films banner. Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is aboard as executive producer. Contradiction Films’ prior digital releases include Mortal Kombat: Legacy, another live-action action video game adaptation that scored big with online audiences. That web series went viral when it debuted online on Machinima.com’s YouTube channel, paving the way for similar video game spin-offs to take advantage of the gamer-centric digital space.

Dead Rising is set to debut as a 90-minute feature in the U.S. on Sony’s digital platform Crackle, followed by SVOD, DVD, VOD, and TV. Content Media, which released the popular Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn film and Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist series digitally, has international rights to Dead Rising and will release it in both feature-length and episodic form.
