“Swamp Thing” is Coming to The CW in October!

Produced by James Wan, DC Universe’s short-lived “Swamp Thing” television series is coming to The CW this Halloween season, and the network has unleashed their own trailer. The one and only season of “Swamp Thing” will begin with a 90-minute premiere on Tuesday, October 6, and it’ll be available the next day on The CW’s official app. Crystal Reed, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott and Maria Sten star in the series. Swamp Thing himself is played by Derek Mears.

“Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

The series, based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, is written by 2Ash vs. Evil Dead” writer Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman.

“Swamp Thing” is coming to The CW!

For those of you who never got a chance to watch producer James Wan’s Swamp Thing series on DC Universe, you’ll be happy to hear that it’s coming to The CW. This series actually got a great first season! It’s a shame that they canceled it before Season 1 even aired.

News of Swamp Thing’s cancelation came before the first season finished airing. However, Swamp Thing had gained such popularity that a movement began on social media, calling for the series to return by using the hashtag, #SaveSwampThing. Swamp Thing currently has a rating of 94% on the review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes.

The show follows Dr. Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) “as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana. However, when a mysterious creature emerges from the murky marsh, she finds herself facing the nightmares of a supernatural world where no one is safe.” The series also stars Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Henderson Wade, Derek Mears, Maria Sten and Jeryl Prescott.

Swamp Thing was a buzzy pickup for Warner Bros. TV-backed streamer DC Universe. The series, executive produced by James Wan, was the third scripted original picked up for the comic book-focused subscription video platform. Based on the Alan Moore comics, trouble began with the series in April 2019, when the show’s initial 13-episode order was reduced to 10 as the future of DC Universe amid parent company WarnerMedia’s plan for a broad-skewing streamer (HBO Max) emerged.

The CW will be airing the first season of Swamp Thing. It should be noted that a second season has not been officially announced.
