Kevin Spacey (The Men Who Stare at Goats), Camilla Belle (10,000 B.C.) and Heather Graham (Son of Morning) star in Father of Invention, a 2011 comedy that is on DVD and Blu-ray less than two weeks after the movie’s premiere as a limited release in theaters on Oct. 14.
Spacey stars as eccentric inventor turned ego-driven infomercial guru Robert Axl. After one of his inventions, the “Ab-Clicker,” maims thousands of customers, a class-action lawsuit lands him in jail for the next 10 years. Newly released, Axle is ready to redeem his name and hopefully rebuild his billion-dollar empire. But first he must convince his estranged 22-year-old daughter (Belle) to let him live with her and her roommates, as well as find that one “fabrication” that will redeem him.

Fantastic news for all the VMad fans. A promotional onslaught is in effect for director Trent Cooper’s comedy Father of Inventionas a new trailer, poster, and a slew of new images from the film have gone online. Starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Craig Robinson, Virginia Madsen, Johnny Knoxville, John Stamos, and Camilla Belle, the film centers on a former infomercial guru (Spacey) who finds himself in prison after a design flaw in one of his inventions de-fingers many of his customers.

✿ Father of Invention is directed by American filmmaker Trent Cooper, of only Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector previously, but also a few shorts including Coaching the Minors. The script was written by Trent Cooper & producer Jonathan D. Krane. This film premiered at various film festival markets in 2010, and was picked up by Anchor Bay Films, but they’ve been holding onto it for a while. Two years after wrapping production, Kevin Spacey’s New Orleans-shot comedy “Father of Invention” finally has been picked up for distribution. Anchor Bay issued a news release today (Aug. 9) announcing its acquisition of all domestic distribution rights for the film, produced by New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson’s Horizon Entertainment.
Directed by Trent Cooper (“Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector”), the film co-stars Camilla Belle, Heather Graham, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson and Johnny Knoxville.
The official synopsis: “Kevin Spacey is Robert Axle, an eccentric inventor turned egomaniacal infomercial guru, who loses it all when one of his inventions maims thousands of customers. After eight years in a maximum security prison, Axle is ready to redeem his name and rebuild his billion dollar empire. But first, he must convince his estranged 22-year old daughter (Belle) to let him live with her and her quirky, over-protective roommates.”
After premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2010, the film ran into trouble finding a domestic distributor, although it did land a TV and DVD deal in Italy.
I am so pleased to announce that Virginia has signed on to the ensemble of Red Riding Hood. Director Catherine Hardwicke’s Gothic variation on the classic fairy tale is set for Warner Bros. release March 11, 2011.
Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family’s displeasure.
Virginia will play the mother of Amanda Seyfried’s heroine in the werewolfilm, which was scripted by Orphan’s David Leslie Johnson. The cast also includes Lukas Haas, Shiloh Fernandez, Gary Oldman and Julie Christie.
