•• Last night, Virginia Madsen was Honorary Committee Member of the truly memorable event Part the Cloud Benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association’s Research at the Rosewood Sand Hill, Menlo Park in California. Part the Cloud event was created to raise awareness and inspire others to join in tackling Alzheimer’s disease and which event raised over $1 million for Alzheimer’s disease.  •• Virginia Madsen among other talented actresses attended YouTube 2012 Upfronts Presentation  at the Beacon Theatre in New York on May 2nd to promote the new youtube channel called WIGS, a new web series of short films and documentaries about women stories that was announced previously on the site.

Filmakers of these new series Jon Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia together with actressess Sarah Jones, Julia Stiles, Jennifer Beals, Caitlin Gerard and Youtube content boss Robert Kyncl were with Virginia at the presentation. The first of many WIGS shorts will debut May 14. •• Star gazing was the order of the evening last nite as scores of celebs checked into the Banff Springs Hotel for the Fairmont Banff Springs Sports Invitational hosted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and friends. The two-day, three-night event benefited Waterkeeper Alliance, the fastest growing environmental movement in the world.

For many, the event’s highlight was Saturday evening’s Awards and Gala Dinner, which raised an impressive $885,000 through live and silent auction items. A fave event was the Saturday evening performance by Grammy Award-winner Michael McDonald of Doobie Brothers fame who was joined on stage by fellow Grammy winner Kenny Loggins. Talk about rocking the house!

•• It was on hiatus in 2011, but this new year welcomed back the Celebrity Sports Invitational to Banff National Park. Virginia Madsen and other celebrities were at Sunshine Village in Baff, Alberta, Canada competing in a variety of activities to help raise money for Robert F. Kennedy, Jr’s Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization that is dedicated to protecting waterways.

In 2010, the event raised more than $1 million for the Waterkeeper Alliance, which is an environmental movement uniting Waterkeepers who patrol and protect rivers, bays, lakes and streams on six continents.

Hollywood glitz and glamour was showcased in Temecula on Sunday night as the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival capped off its festivities with a star-studded awards gala at the Pechanga Resort and Casino.

Several big names in film and music were honored as an audience of more than 200 people, including many of the filmmakers and musicians who debuted their work during the five-day event, looked on.

Among the honorees was film star Virginia Madsen, who praised film festivals as venues for creativity and good moviemaking. Madsen, who has starred in numerous films and received an Oscar nomination for “Sideways,” was honored Sunday with the founder’s award for outstanding career achievement.

“Film festivals are the lifeblood of independent filmmaking nowadays,” Madsen said in an interview. “It’s very hard now to get your film made and distributed and seen… The more interesting, artistic films are just not getting out there.”

That’s where film festivals such as Temecula’s come in, she said. “It’s a great gathering place for creative thinking, for creative minds,” Madsen said. “It’s also a wonderful place to meet the newcomers.”

✿ The 17th Annual Temecula Film Fest will honor Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated actress Virginia Madsen at the fest’s Black Tie Gala. She  started her career in 1984 in David Lynch’s adaption of “Dune,” but had her break-through with the 1986 film “Fire with Fire.” Madsen is best known for her character Maya in 2004′ Sideways, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award, and won an Independent Spirit Award.

The Blank will present Colette Keen’s drama Sept. 12 at 8 PM at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Kirsten Sanderson will direct. Windows On The World is being presented as part of the Blank’s new play development program, the Living Room Series.

Poets, lawyers, administrators, artists, and fire fighters have shared their experiences and describe how their lives have changed as a result of this day of de-enlightenment. East Coast Independent Film has started a new program at UConn that helps independent filmmakers find an audience. This is the second screening of a Connecticut made film for this new “Screening & Talk Back Program” started by “East Coast Independent Film” director Alexander J. Andriulli.

On Monday, March 28, from 6-9 p.m., there will be a screening of the Connecticut-made independent film “Being Michael Madsen” which features the actors Michael Madsen, Virginia Madsen, and Daryl Hannah at the UConn Student Union Theater. This event will be open to the public.

The program is hosted by the UConn student union body of government film committee. Purpose for this program: To help generate tangible growth for the film industry on the East Coast. This program is similar to what a major film studio would do to help promote its upcoming films. It connects the filmmakers to college students who can help spread the word about their film, which gives the filmmakers access to a larger audience. The more revenue the company makes the more likely they are to make more projects here on the East Coast.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer-director Francis Ford Coppola and Honorary Awards to historian and preservationist Kevin Brownlow, director Jean-Luc Godard and actor Eli Wallach. The Thalberg Award, a bust of the motion picture executive, is given to “a creative producer whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of motion picture production.” The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given to an individual for “extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.”

A lot of celebrities joined fans for a tribute to the band, which featured an outdoor screening of Ramones concert movie It’s Alive and horror classic Night of The Living Dead. The connection? Studio Co-Artistic Director Bob Devin Jones explained via email:

Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor and I lived next door to each other in Silver lake (East Hollywood near Griffith Park). I had a small part in Alexander’s graduate (UCLA) student film, I also catered one day of the shoot. I and my best friend Joe Marenelli were the two actors in Jim Taylor’s graduate film that got him into the film school at NYU. We have all known each other for nearly 25 years. In Silver Lake – I still have that apt – we would have these Friday night dinners nearly every Friday night (lots of stuff from Trader Joe’s). Jim and Alexander were frequent guests. Alexander loves to cook.

The 6:00 p.m. screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring filmmakers and voice cast, including animation legend Bruce Timm and Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen. Filmmakers will also screen the world premiere of the first footage of Green Lantern: First Flight, an upcoming DC Universe animated original movie.

Presented by Warner Premiere, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics, the all-new Wonder Woman animated original movie will be distributed by Warner Home Video on March 3, 2009. Wonder Woman will be available as a Single Disc DVD, 2-Disc Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The animated original movie will also be available OnDemand and Pay-Per-View, as well as available for download day and date, March 3, 2009.

Madsen, making her first-ever Con appearance, provides the regal voice of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons and mother to Diana/Wonder Woman.
